GreenVETAfrica: Vocational Training Course in Technical Foundation in Waste Management

We've received nearly 200 applications for the GreenVETAfrica Vocational Training Programme! To manage the program's capacity, we asked all applicants to complete an assessment test. Currently 115 students, 52 from Nigeria and 63 from Ghana, are actively attending the first Green Waste Management Vocational Training Programme that started in March and will last until May.

The aim of this course is to provide the state-of-the-art in technological foundations, organisational practices and entrepreneurial, digital business knowledge required for the effective management of wastes in municipalities and urban centers.

Students who complete attend the job fair to expose them to job opportunities.

Course content

The course will cover (among others specific course modules) the following:

  • Introduction to environmental and waste management
  • Technologies for waste collection, management, recycling and disposal
  • Technical foundations and equipment for waste collection, management, recycling and disposal (Covering basics of electricity and electrical maintenance; mechanical drives systems, etc.)
  • Entrepreneurial, digital and business foundation for waste management
  • Innovative remote expert technology for field work support

 

Learning outcome

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Gain Knowledge in waste and environmental management systems
  • Understand different types of waste, their handling, storage, disposal requirements, and their potential effect on the environment.
  • Understand modern waste disposal and treatment methods
  • Gain technical knowledge on the electrical, mechanical and basic automation foundation for waste management
  • Gain some foundational knowledge of waste management entrepreneurship opportunities with digital skills foundations

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, mandatory assignments, project work in groups, workshop and laboratory work; experts testimonials, and visit to local solid waste sites.

Admission requirements (Nigeria)

Candidates must:

  • Male and female candidates must be at least 18 and 21 years of age respectively.
  • Submit a proof of completion of Senior Secondary School or Technical School (SSCE/GCE/ NABTEB/ Trade test, Technical certificate, etc.) and must be at least 18 years of age.

    OR

  • Have undergone some form of formal/informal apprenticeship/internship scheme in the waste management sector and must be at least 21 years of age
  • Pass the online entrance pre-selection assessment test.

Admission requirements (Ghana)

Candidates must:

  • Submit a proof of completion of Senior Secondary School or Technical School (SSCE/GCE/ NABTEB/ Trade test, Technical certificate, etc.) and must be at least 18 years of age.

    OR

  • Have undergone some form of formal/informal apprenticeship scheme in the waste management sector and must be at least 21 years of age
  • Open to male and female.
  • Pass the online entrance pre-selection assessment test.
