Green Waste Management skills and jobs of the future

Based on the GreenVETAfrica analysis carried out in Nigeria and Ghana, public and private waste collectors are in the best position to create job opportunities for the low-skilled uneducated people (laborers), haulers, and some skilled labour as drivers, supervisors, and managers.

Based on the GreenVETAfrica analysis carried out in Nigeria and Ghana, public and private waste collectors are in the best position to create job opportunities for low-skilled uneducated people (laborers), haulers, and some skilled labour as drivers, supervisors, and managers. Recyclable materials, that are indiscriminately dumped on streets, from households, and from legal and illegal dumpsites, are mostly collected by the informal sector which sells them to Aggregators and Preprocessors. The informal sector absorbs a relevant number of unemployed and unskilled youth. In order to support their transition to sustainable micro-small businesses waste management and micro-entrepreneurship skills would be necessary.

The Aggregator and Pre-Processors require higher qualified profiles for their operations because of the technologies used for activities such as washing, bailing, crushing, pelletizing, etc.

Recyclers and Manufacturing companies require factory workers specialised in the production and assembly lines.
